Our education system as a whole is heavily faulted in terms of preparing students for life outside of school in terms of, finance, career, social skills, and skills needed to succeed such as work ethic. This petition’s purpose is to shift the focus in the teaching of students to more useful, applicable, and valuable subjects that teach students these skills that are absolutely necessary to succeed in our society today.

It has become more and more clear as we have ventured into distance learning the toll that these subjects and teaching methods have on students performance, mental health, and productivity. As students are being deprived of the social and physical aspect of in-person teaching, and are left alone only with the contents of the course, and the assignments at hand, grades have plummeted, which is evidence that we have an outdated and ultimately, useless schooling system in place.

Our lives are too short to have them wasted on subjects that serve little value to us as future workers and business owners, the methods and social standards that we have been taught our entire childhoods, are not sufficient to what is truly needed to “prepare today’s students to be the thinkers, leaders, and creators of tomorrow.” We need to be taught how to be leaders, hard workers, and overall good people who can really make a difference, and we, as students don’t believe our current education system is the way to do it.
