This week, Hobsons Bay City Council discussed our petition calling for upgraded public facilities at Williamstown Beach.
Local swimmer Jess Marnich went along to the council meeting and reports:
Mayor Antoinette Briffa spoke supportively about our petition.
Councillor Marsden spoke of the need to ensure public facilities, the beach precinct, including the lifesaving club, are refurbished and the project takes into account the many beach users (including the little ones) across all the seasons.
Councillor Hemphill spoke in support and council staff talked about the scope of the project and the expectations of the lifesaving club in relation to the available funding.
It seems like there is a need for the project scope to be revised in order to clarify what will be funded for the lifesaving club versus the public facilities.
Thanks Jess for representing us at the council meeting. We are making a difference.
Just this morning, Melissa Horne MP cc’d me in a letter she has written to council requesting they investigate the concerns raised in our petition and provide an update about “plans to amend the current proposal and include more public facilities at Williamstown Beach.”
This petition is working and the council, the politicians and the media are taking notice. It’s still online and collecting signatures. Please share the link:

All beach users will benefit from our efforts.
Cheers,
