Save Liberty Hill, Stop the 29 Bypass

The Issue

The history of Liberty Hill, like Texas, is one of dedication and persistence. Prior to 1900, the town of Liberty Hill moved three times due to the relocation of the post office, local stage stop, and finally the railroad.

By the mid-20th century, Liberty Hill was a small but thriving farming community with its own lumber yard, feed store, drug store, domino parlor and several cafes. However in the 1950’s the State chose to bypass the city once again. When the Highway 29 bypass was completed, downtown Liberty HIll stores shuttered, leaving lasting effects on the local economy and disconnecting citizens from their places of community.

Today, historic downtown Liberty Hill is finally hitting its stride for the first time in decades with the help of brave entrepreneurs and millions of revitalization dollars from the city of Liberty Hill.  However, this comeback story is all under threat from the county’s proposed Highway 29 bypass.

The proposed bypass will divert traffic through an eight-lane toll road to the south of Liberty Hill, bypassing both historical downtown and the established business district on the existing Highway 29 frontage.

Don’t let the county stop the revitalization of downtown Liberty Hill! The proposed Highway 29 bypass would do exactly that, bypass our local businesses and halt the development happening in our historic downtown.

The routing of this highway does nothing to support the new and planned development to the North of Liberty Hill, solely supports throughput and diverts patronage from the from Burnet Co. The path proposed by Williamson County cuts through family farm land and over the beautiful South San Gabriel several times, polluting and paving over our beautiful hill country.

Save Liberty Hill. Stop this destructive bypass.
