Thanks to the support of so many great people like you, the Williamson County Board of Commissioners voted to accept the task force’s unanimous decision to remove the Confederate battle flag from our county seal a few months ago. This prompted the county to submit a petition to the Tennessee Historical Commission to obtain their permission to remove this flag (because of state law).
The TN Historical Commission has put Williamson County's petition to remove the Confederate battle flag from our county seal on the agenda for their next meeting on 2/18. Since it took a coordinated effort and a lot of public input for the County Commission to take this up and get it approved, I'm reaching back out to 1) provide an update, and 2) ask for your support to get this through the next phase.
The TN Historical Commission said comments can be submitted via email to ask.thc@tn.gov before 2:00 PM on 2/15, and those comments will be provided with the county's petition to all of the Commissioners. Businesses can also scan and email letters on their letterhead to that same email address if they determine that to be a more appropriate format. Several major businesses in our community such as Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mars Petcare, and Jackson National submitted similar letters to the task force to show how the business community cares about this, as well. Those who wish to speak publicly during the hearing can also email ask.thc@tn.gov to request time to speak.
This meeting in February is the initial hearing, and they will vote on the matter later in the spring. This is one of the last opportunities to make your voice heard to help us do the right thing here in Williamson County.
