An update on the Williamson County seal: this week, a judge approved a request from the Sons of Confederate Veterans to delay the final hearing with the TN Historical Commission from Oct. to FEBRUARY 2022, so that Confederate battle flag stays there for a few more months.
This delay is disappointing, as it has already been a year-long process, but this shows both a weakness in the Heritage Protection Act and the influence that pro-Confederate organizations still have in our state.
The removal of that flag from our county seal is supported by our County Commissioners, the County Mayor’s task force, Williamson, Inc. (chamber of commerce), Visit Franklin, Nissan North America, Mitsubishi, Mars Petcare, Jackson National, the African American Heritage Society, and thousands of residents and other stakeholders in our community. It’s the right thing to do.
