The TN Historical Commission is scheduled to hold the final hearing to address Williamson County's petition for a waiver from the Heritage Protection Act on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 9:00.  This is one year after the initial hearing, and nearly 20 months since the issue was first brought up with the Williamson County Board of Commissioners.

Approval from the TN Historical Commission will allow the Williamson County government to alter the county seal and remove the Confederate flag from it.  This was already approved by the County Commission and a Task Force in the fall of 2020, but state law requires additional approval by a two-thirds majority from the appointees on the TN Historical Commission.

Those interested in speaking or sharing their comments with the TN Historical Commission may do so by following the instructions below, which were posted in the Meeting Agenda.

"An interested entity, group, or individual that wishes to provide a written comment on the Williamson County petition for waiver may do so by emailing the comment to: Ask.THC@tn.gov. To be considered by the Commission at this final hearing, the comment must be received no later than 5:00 PM on February 15, 2022.

An interested entity, group, or individual that wishes to orally comment at this final hearing on the Williamson County petition for waiver must make their request by emailing Ask.THC@tn.gov no later than 5:00 PM on February 15, 2022."

The meeting will be held at the following location on February 18th:

Tennessee Tower, 3rd Floor, Nashville Room

312 Rosa L. Parks Ave.

Nashville, TN 37243
