End the Depositing of Grass Clippings on South Carolina Roadways.

The Issue

During the summer months, residents regularly direct their lawnmowers so the clippings are deposited onto the roadways. Grass clippings and or leaves in the roadway has become a major hazard for motorcycle riders in the state of South Carolina.  One of my best friends made a post about a month ago trying to bring awareness about grass clippings in the roadway and the dangers to motorcycle riders. When tires come in contact with grass clippings or leaves they loose traction and can cause a motorcycle or vehicle to loose control quickly.

I have started this petition and am asking for your help to keep our roadways clean and safe, stop unnecessary injury and death by passing a law that will make blowing grass clippings and leaves into the roadway illegal.

The city of Columbia, among other S.C. governmental entities, prohibits sweeping (or blowing) litter into the street. A hamburger wrapper is actually less harmful to water quality (although no less illegal) than grass clippings.

Please sign this petition making it illegal for residents to deposit clippings into SC roadways. This would be a misdemeanors offence, resulting in a ticket and requiring homeowners to clean the roadway.
