Undergraduate students need study spaces in Lazaridis Hall

Undergraduate students need study spaces in Lazaridis Hall
The Issue
Lazaridis Hall is a brand new building for the Business and Economics department at Wilfrid Laurier University. The problem is that the $105 million building isn't being used to its full potential. There are over 6000 undergraduate BBA students that use this building, yet an entire floor, all study spaces, and even specific couches in the hallways are designated to graduate students, MBA students, and PhD students. Every door to every classroom, study room, and lab within the building are locked for selected access.
The issue is that these designated study and research spaces are almost always empty. Why are we wasting this new and expensive space? Why are we being denied the space to study and improve the status of the Laurier BBA degree?
There are a few other study spaces around the school: although they fill up quickly, leaving it hard to find a place to sit down, focus, and study. There's the 24 lounge, concourse, and science atrium which are always full. Then there is the library which is always packed to its maximum capacity during peak study periods, common gaps between classes, and in the evenings.
To make matters worse, the business and economics students at Laurier have the highest tuition out of everyone at Laurier, adding up to be approximately $10 000 per year. If I'm paying that much for my education, I would at least like somewhere to sit down and earn better grades to actually get the degree that I'm paying for.
Sign this petition is you believe that Laurier is wasting space that could be used and highly appreciated by the undergradute students. The meetings rooms could be booked for group study spaces, some of the study rooms and labs could be used by undergraduates, and the hallways shouldn't be segregated. $105 million building could be used by more than the 2 graduate students that I've seen using these study spaces as I pace the Lazaridis Halls every day.
