Wildlife is not Entertainment

Wildlife is not Entertainment
The Issue
In recent days, news has broken of 3 tigers that died in Parsa because of the appalling conditions they were kept in. Also in the news is the inauguration of new enclosures (cramped, concrete and metal with no natural material or place for the tigers to find privacy) in Chitwan where tourists visiting the National Park can be 'guaranteed' a tiger sighting.
This trend is not limited to Chitwan or just Tigers, Nepal has several Zoos and 'Wildlife Rescue Centers' where animals are kept in miserable conditions for entertainment with total disregard for the physical and psychological well being of the animals.
I have personally witnessed a juvenile leopard being kept in a 12 sq foot metal cage(right by the zoo entrance and with no separation from people) for over 5 months. Several other animals (birds, monkeys, jungle cats, civets, deer) that were 'rescued' being kept in small metal cages without access to drinking water, adequate food or any positive stimuli even though they had recovered and were fit to be released back in the wild.
The system needs to be overhauled, captive wildlife are not a tourist draw. Please sign the petition and spread the word. The current situation is Chitwan is being promoted by Nepal Tourism Board and implemented by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Nepal with financial support from WWF Nepal. Please write to them, please sign the petition and please spread the word.
