Put Ray Dutton into the Widnes Vikings Hall of Fame

The Issue

To those who follow rugby league, your more than likely to have heard of Ray Dutton. Ray was an exceptional player, most known for his time at Widnes Viking’s. He played in the full back position and during his time at Widnes, he won caps for England against wales and France as well as winning caps for Great Britain against New Zealand.

Ray achieved many things during his time at widnes, including being named man of the match and winning the Lance Todd Trophy in 1975 for his involvement in widnes’ 14-7 win over Warrington in the challenge cup.

His accomplishments can still be recognised as he currently still holds the record for widnes in two categories. The first is ‘Most Points in a Career’ where Ray holds the record with 2195. The second being ‘Most Goals in a Career’ where he holds the record with 1083.

As an astonishing player and record holder for widnes vikings, you’d think that Ray Dutton would hold a spot in their ‘Hall of Fame’, however, you’d be wrong.
Ray has many teammates and friends who hold a place in the hall of fame, all of whom have achieved great things but Ray has never been given the acknowledgement he deserves for all he did for the club he loves.

Ray is still a resident in Widnes and still an avid rugby fan. Widnes Viking’s have been approached multiple times to ask why Ray doesn’t have a place in the hall of fame but each time we have been ignored. It would mean the absolute world to Ray, his family, his friends and his supporters if we could get him into the hall of fame where he deserves to be!
