The Issue

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just announced the 2026 Oscar nominations—and Wicked: For Good was shut out completely.

No Best Actress nominations for Cynthia Erivo or Ariana Grande, despite their powerful, emotionally rich performances. No nods for Stephen Schwartz’s original songs, even though two were shortlisted and met all eligibility criteria. Not a single nomination across any category—not costuming, not production design, not makeup, not original score.

How is one of the most iconic musicals of our generation, now adapted for the screen with incredible care, ambition, and heart, not recognized in any form?

We, the undersigned, believe Wicked was unfairly overlooked—and we urge the Academy to recognize it at the Oscars.

From “Defying Gravity” to “Thank Goodness,” Wicked has defined Broadway for two decades. The film sequel not only met fans' high expectations—it expanded on the story with two new songs, dazzling visuals, and pitch-perfect casting. Wicked: For Good was more than a sequel—it was a cinematic event.

We understand not every performance or film can be honored. But to receive zero recognition? That’s not just a snub—it’s a dismissal of an entire legacy that shaped theater, music, and now film.

Tell the Academy: The world noticed this omission. And we won’t stop celebrating the magic of Wicked.
