Shame on Ideal Market for going after a 15 Year Old!

Whole Foods has brought action against 15-year-old Ateret Goldman of Boulder for throwing flowers on cuts of meat as an act of protest against cruelty to animals. Instead of recouping the cost of the meat from Ateret's family, estimated at around $1000, Whole Foods called in the police. Goldman now faces charges of felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor tampering (according to the Daily Camera). As a customer of Ideal Market (owned by Whole Foods) for the past 15 years, I am deeply disappointed in the overreaction to this non-violent act of protest by a young teenager. I intend to boycott Whole Foods, and call on you to do the same, until the charges against Ateret are dismissed.
A clarification: I do not know Ateret or her family. I personally do not eat meat for ethical reasons. Yet I support stores that sell meat day in, day out, by giving them my business. I do not expect any special understanding from them. However, going after a 15-year-old girl for throwing flowers on cuts of meat -- to protect an industry that is inherently violent -- crosses a line. I especially appeal to all the vegetarians out there: stand up for this girl!
