"The Licking County Animal Shelter in Ohio is no longer euthanizing animals in-house!"
"The shelter has permanently given up its license to use dangerous drugs used to euthanize animals after an investigation by the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy. In 2012, expired drugs were used at the shelter for animal euthanization. Last year, John Silva, the county's animal control director at the time, said it was human error."
"David Shellhouse, the director of Licking County Animal Control, said animals have not been euthanized at the shelter since shortly before he started working there on Aug. 31 last year. Instead, the shelter contracts the work out to a veterinarian."
"The shelter euthanized 13 dogs and no cats in 2015, Shellhouse said. The shelter only euthanizes an animal when it is too dangerous to be adopted."
