Dr. Ko Wen-je’s father was critically ill, yet the government only granted him a brief visit before forcing him back into detention. Just hours after he was taken away, his father passed away—without his son by his side. A moment that should have been filled with love and farewell was instead stolen by political oppression.

This is not justice. This is cruelty from Taiwan’s ruling government under Lai administration.

A System Weaponized Against Political Opponents

 • Dr. Ko remains detained without trial or evidence.

 • His detention was extended arbitrarily, without justification.

 • He was denied the right to accompany his father in his final moments, a basic human right.

If a former mayor, doctor, and presidential candidate can be treated this way, what does this say about Taiwan’s democracy? Who will be next?

We Must Act Now! We urge:

 • The international community to hold Taiwan’s government accountable.

 • Human rights organizations and media to expose this injustice.

 • All defenders of democracy to stand up, speak out, and demand his release.

No family should be torn apart like this. No democracy should tolerate such cruelty. Justice must prevail.
