Since 2018, the municipality of Comal County, Texas has banned the feeding of wildlife. However, feeding the ducks and pigeons that seek refuge in public park areas is a time-honored tradition that dates back to ancient times. The city cites many points to try and deter those who want to help the wildlife, but upon my inspection from a simple park walk, I see many flaws. Flaws include bubbling up of liner material from embankment modifications, encroachment of more park area by non-native tree plantings, mulch & flower beds, numerous pavillions, and other structures that only benefit humans. Dead crustaceans and other wildlife continue to litter the bank, along with an overflowing fishing line container. Non-native geese and many other waterfowl are easily identified throughout the park, and are a rather obvious result of illegal animal dumping. The moral is that despite the new regime of ordinances, there are still problems in the park. To have encroached on a sacred American tradition often done by innocent children is despicable.
