Petitioning Westport Planning and Zoning Commission

No high density development at the intersection of Route 33 and Kings Highway North

There is an application pending in Planning and Zoning for a 48 unit, 4 story apartment building on a small <1 acre lot at the corner of Route 33 and Kings Highway South - right opposite the Willows Medical Center. Approval for this project is being sort under the Connecticut Affordable Housing statue that has the authority to over ruling Town zoning regulations.

Imagine the negative impact on this busy corner.

There is great concern about traffic density, access for fire and emergency services - the Fire Dept have already demonstrated the difficulty they would have to responding to a fire and evacuating residents. The developers seem to ignore the visual impact and pollution this 4 story building will cause on what is one of the last open vistas for the Saugatuck, let alone the impact of water runoff and pollution into the fragile marshland that abuts the river bank.

There is nothing good about this proposal, other than it provides a profit for the developer at the expense of the citizens of Westport. We are not against affordable housing - we agree there is a need for more in town that has to be met - just not here.
