Department of Transport WA - Change your new laws on LED light bars
The Issue
On the 8th of August 2015 the WA Department of Transport changed the rules regarding the way we fit/install LED light bars. The new rules state that LED light bars can only be fitted to the front of your, car below the edge of the bonnet. Myself and countless others have small, medium or large light bars installed on the roof, rollbar or on top of bull/roo/bumper bars on our 4x4's. The reason for this, besides greatly improved vision at night, is that the majority of light bars will only fit in these places. Like any additional lights (like the law says) these light bars only work when high-beam is on and turn off automatically when low-beam is activated (when installed correctly).
I agree with the law stating that you should not have any more than four light bars, that they should be installed in pairs OR if a single light is fitted it must be symetrical and that they only operate when the head lights are turned to high-beam and turn off automatically when low-beam is selected. These rules are also followed in other states. But other states specifically state that light bars can be installed on the roof etc. as long as they don't impede the drivers vision.
Why can't WA have the same rules as every one else? Will the WA Department of Transport buy our light bars that will NOT fit on the front of our cars? How about the businesses that sell light bars in WA? Will they receive compensation on now useless stock? We need to come to some sort of solution, even if there's a compromise from both sides.
