Why this petition matters

Started by Ginger Sacco

On October 25, 2022 I attended the City of Sanford City Council Meeting for the Roads Workshop. I attended to speak regarding the NEWLY INSTALLED STOP SIGNS.
NOW TODAY NOVEMBER 7TH, THE DAY OF the REMOVAL OF THE STOP SIGNS......
I spoke to the City of Sanford Contracted Sign Employees and they advised me they signs were installed in error and the two installed ON TWOMBLEY RD at the JUNCTION of SHAW ST were to be REMOVED.

TODAY ON ELECTION DAY - I spoke to the Mayor she advised me "they were taken down as they were installed in error." I was in disbelief as they were there and were slowing down the speeding traffic and were welcomed to see the stop signs in the neighborhood. They just wished they were lower and enforced.
I also spoke to the Department of Public Works Department Manager Matt Hill, who told me "YOU demanded them to be taken down we have you on video at the City Council meeting."
I have now spoken to NUMEROUS Homeowners in my neighborhood as they were walking up to VOTE and THEY ARE PISSED!

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO GET OUR STOP SIGNS BACK IN WEST SIDE!

When our neighbors pass by via foot, bicycle, skateboard, car, motorcycle, truck, 18-wheeler, business vehicle etc those of us who are gathered around the front yard socializing, sipping on cold beverages, enjoying the campfire, getting to know one another – we cheer on those who STOP at the STOP SIGN. They then roll down the window and give feedback……

THE INVISIBLE STOP SIGN

1.     Driving from Main St. Down Twombley Rd. Turning LEFT onto Shaw St.

a.   Turning from Main St is often met with navigating parked vehicles after entering onto Twombley Rd.

b.   Knowing the high number of driveways at the beginning of Twombley Rd on the Right and the parking garage and lot on the Left keeps the driver’s eyes busy until on top of the Stop Sign.

c.   The Yellow “Stop Ahead” Sign is barely visible due to branches.

d.  Due to the turning angle onto Twombley Rd the visibility distance to see the Stop Sign is short, if at all.

e.   The Stop sign is not lit by lights at night.

f.     The Stop Sign is not visible when turning onto Twombley Rd. when coming from 202 or Hannafords.

g.   This Stop Sign has not been here before why it is here now since there is going to be crosswalk? Especially since there are no signs posted by this intersection. There are signs posted farther down Twombley Rd. for other crosswalks.

h.   It is mounted higher compared to stop signs on older streets.

i.      The Stop Sign is visible once one is aware it is present.

THE MOST STOPPED AT STOP SIGN

2.     Driving from Berwick Rd. Up Twombley Rd. Turning RIGHT onto Shaw St.

a.   This Stop Sign has not been here before why it is here now since there is going to be crosswalk? Especially since there are no signs posted by this intersection. There are signs posted farther down Twombley Rd.  for other crosswalks.

b.   It is mounted higher compared to stop signs on older streets.

c.   The Stop Sign is visible once one is aware it is present.

THE STOP SIGN / YIELD

3.     Driving on Shaw St. to Twombley Rd

a.   TURNING RIGHT

                                              i.     The Stop Sign is treated as a yield a vast majority of the time.

b.   TURNING LEFT

                                              i.     The Stop Sign is Stopped at when the driver turns left.

c.   The Stop Sign has always been here.

d.  The Stop Sign is not enforced.

e.   Blinkers at this Stop Sign are always backwards….don’t ask me why but it’s a thing….before you think I am really the female town cray cray no seriously Why are we so concerned?

In our small T-shaped block:

a dozen school aged children.

three neighbors who operate a motorized wheelchair around this particular intersection.

Without violating HIPAA neighbor who is non-vocal and handicapped.

Sidewalk to driveway to sidewalk transitions….now the weather is cooling off, the Twombley Rd, & Shaw St. slopped sidewalks are an abled bodies nightmare. Only be enhanced once the puddles in the right of ways due to lack of construction completion will soon have an ice rink.

What has to happen to ask for MORE SAFETY in our neighborhood?
