In light of recent events, the West Orange Board of Education has made the outrageous decisions to change our schedule. Our current virtual schedule has been successful in accounting for accurate amount of class time, it’s allowed us to get the education we need while not in school while still allowing us to pursue a life outside of school. West Orange Board of Education also failed to take account for all of the students mental health as we are going through a pandemic that has disrupted our lives and has also put ourselves and our loved ones in danger. Everything we have gotten used to and have worked towards has been taken away. They have extended our class periods five minutes which is pointless to begin with because there is nothing more that we will be able to learn within a five minute period. they have taken away our 15 minute breaks after class and decided to account for that lost time with a random 30 minute break in between periods one and two. Also, the board of education wants to take away asynchronous Friday which is a day students get a break from zoom and can do their work at their own pace.They didn’t realize that many people have lives outside of school such as jobs volunteer opportunities, sports, and office hours. And that changing the schedule would disrupt all of these things. Why should we change the schedule that was never broken to begin with. The school needs stop trying to take away the liberties of the students and instead of making decisions without student input you need to consider the students in a matter that affects them the most.
