Graduation Ceremony!

The Issue

Due to the covid-19 pandemic things are different for everyone this year, however, things have started to slowly change back to normal. People began working in retail positions months ago and students and teachers have gone back to school. At West Georgia Technical College, we have been participating in in-person classes with proximity to other students, as well as shared space and computers. However, we are not being allowed to participate in a graduation ceremony. The college has decided to replace the graduation ceremony this semester with a virtual commencement video and an in-person photo opportunity with the President of the College at the Murphy campus. The same precautions that are being taken with classes and the high school graduations that have happened recently can be enforced with this ceremony in order to keep everyone safe. As a graduate of WGTC this semester along with many others who have worked hard for this accomplishment, we would like the opportunity to have a ceremony with social distancing and safety precautions in effect. Why are the graduates of 2020 being denied the opportunity to walk at our college graduation ceremony that we have all worked so hard for?
