The East Terrace Society started this petition to Welsh Rugby Union

Like many Welsh children, I grew up hearing stories of our famed rugby support; a crowd that was the first to sing a national anthem before a sporting event, the only crowd that sang in harmony, the crowd that led one BBC presenter back in 1964 to refer to them as ‘the most musical and passionate in the world’.

Singing is a huge part of Welsh culture, one of the few things we are known for internationally (as well as Gareth Bale). It was rugby fans who made Wales famous for our singing ability. It’s part of our identity.

But in recent years, the singing that we were once renowned for has all but disappeared from the Principality Stadium. Apart from the occasional 'Wales, Wales' and 'Hymns and Arias', the atmosphere is depressingly flat.

To help remedy this, I think the WRU should implement a dedicated singing-section. This could help bring like-minded fans together to sing and create an atmosphere which would then hopefully spread throughout the stadium.

A similar system is used at Welsh football internationals to great effect, whilst a singing-section has also been adopted successfully by other top level sports teams, the most high-profile being Manchester United.

I firmly believe this would significantly improve the atmosphere and match day experience. Please help and sign the petition, before it's too late and we've lost an important part of our Welsh heritage forever.

If you care about this as much as I do, please like/follow the East Terrace Society on Facebook and Twitter (@EastTerraceSociety). Thank you!
