WE WON!Forced to Resign: Demand Kaiser Rehire Nurse Mariana in the DACA Rehire Agreement!
The Issue
We won in just 24 hours, Kaiser offered her job back, bowing to our community pressure! Thank You!!!
Mariana is a deeply committed nurse who has worked for Kaiser for 11 years. When she faced a bureaucratic delay in the processing of her DACA work permit, Kaiser did not stand by her side. Instead of offering support and providing options while she navigated a broken immigration system, Kaiser Permanente management ushered Mariana into a conference room and handed her an ultimatum: resign immediately or be fired. Scared for her livelihood, her professional record, and her safety, Mariana was coerced into resigning under extreme pressure.
Recently, a Letter of Agreement (LOA) was signed between Kaiser and the California Nurses Association to protect nurses in this exact, vulnerable situation. The agreement guarantees that any nurse who is terminated due to a delay in renewing their work authorization has a preferential right to be rehired within one year, with their seniority and sick leave fully reinstated.
However, because Kaiser intimidated Mariana into resigning rather than officially terminating her, she is currently being denied these protections. Kaiser is refusing to reinstate Mariana over an immigration backlog that was completely out of her control.
We demand that Kaiser Permanente:
- Honor the Agreement: Immediately include Mariana under the protections of the recently signed CNA/Kaiser work authorization LOA.
Restore Her Rights: Guarantee Mariana’s right to be rehired for her position, with her seniority, sick leave, and education leave balances fully reinstated to their preceding levels, exactly as the agreement dictates.
Mariana stood by her patients when they needed her most. Now, it is time for us to stand by her. Please sign this petition to show your solidarity with Nurse Mariana and demand that Kaiser put their nurses and patients first!
