We Want Waks!!
The Issue
The issue is that Mr. Waks is being let go from his position as the theater teacher at CSUS for unclear reasons, despite the huge positive impact he has had on students over the past three years. I, as one of his students who is writing this, am speaking on behalf of many when I say he is more than just a teacher. He is a mentor, an inspiration, and a safe person that any student can turn to for support, encouragement, wisdom, and advice.
Mr. Waks has created an environment where any student can be themselves without feeling judged and, in fact, feel accepted for who they are. He has helped countless students explore their love for theater and the performing arts, which is something the multiple theater teachers before him in 2023 could not do.
Losing Mr. Waks would deeply affect both the students and the theater community. We believe it is incredibly unfair to remove a teacher who has brought students together better than any teacher before him, allowed students to cry on his shoulder no matter what they were going through, and created some of the best memories his students will carry with them. We are asking the administration to reconsider this decision, and we need your help to convince them.
