Cardinal Newman's dress code has many rigorous rules on the uniform. The student body agrees that it makes the school look more professional and put together. However, with the strict dress code the students feel as if they are not able to have any fashion style with the uniform. A lot of the students have been complaining how the administrators have decided to take away a couple of shoe options that the students were previously able to wear. Some students think that the administrators have made some bad calls on focusing more on shoe color and the type of shoe rather than focusing on non-CN hoodies or outerwear on mass days. A few adults that have been asked have said that different color shoes and different types of shoes do not make the students look out of uniform. Parents have also stated that the different color shoes and different styles do not make the students look less formal. A new rule that has been heavily enforced is the shoe color. Another rule that has been heavily enforced is not being able to wear boots. As a student I think we should have the right to wear boots during the colder parts of the year. A lot of students have been told they are not allowed to wear UGGs. UGGs are closed-toed shoes and are majority of simple neutral color. UGGs have the colors of black, gray, and red which are allowed by the school. UGGs also have more neutral colors such as dark greek brown and light brown. But, even though those colors are neutrals they are not Cardinal Newman dress code colors.A common statement that the school gives out is that different colors are “informal” or that “people will get distracted easily by them.” However, a lot of students disagree with the statements the administrators have said, and they agree that the color of shoes would not distract their learning in classrooms.
