“One million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed annually from plastic in our oceans. Forty-four percent of all seabird species, 22 percent of whales and dolphins, all sea turtle species, and a growing list of fish species have been documented with plastic in or around their bodies.” 

 A lot of this plastic is non-reusable straws. And if we could stop using them altogether would be remarkable! But our first target is South Africa, where I have grown up watching the beaches and cities being filled with plastic day by day. And we need to fix this now for our future generations and for my generation and future.  I can see this problem bubbling up and its not ok. I am scared for my future and for my kids future.

I have heard so many people make excuses as to why plastic straws are great and we should never ban them. I have heard that we need them for the disabled but the disabled can use metal straws or glass or paper straws. You see what I have realized is that people want to ignore problems because they don't know what to do about them. And when the problems are brought up people like to make excuses as to why they cannot be solved, so that they can just forget about them again and go back to leaving in their comfortable lives instead and living a little uncomfortable for a little while so that a lot of people can benefit in the long run.

And that is why we need to take action and get out of our comfort zone and say no more to this mess. Sign this petition and help us reach our goal of 200,000 signatures. This petition is targeted to the South African government we want them to ban all plastic straw production and distribution throughout South Africa. Make a difference today. If this petition works than we could be saving thousands of creatures and make that number drop rapidly but if we don't then we are only looking at that number rising massively.
