We want a Safer Walnut Boulevard!

We want a Safer Walnut Boulevard!
The Issue
Tell Corvallis City Council and Public Works that you support improving safety on Walnut Boulevard!
We call on Corvallis City Council and Public Works to plan and fund changes to Walnut Boulevard that will reduce speeds and increase safety and usability for all modes of transportation and improve quality of life in North Corvallis.
Walnut Boulevard is designed to allow cars to drive fast while leaving cyclists unprotected and making crossing dangerous for pedestrians, including elementary school students, churchgoers, seniors, our neighbors with disabilities, public transit users, and anyone seeking alternatives to driving.
Because of high speeds, inadequate bike lanes, and long distances between pedestrian crossings, many people feel unsafe using Walnut Boulevard. Unfortunately, for many Corvallis neighborhoods there is no way to avoid Walnut Boulevard. For those on foot or on bikes, it acts as a barrier to safely access their schools, churches, local businesses, and the rest of Corvallis.
Changes to increase safety and encourage alternative transportation on Walnut Boulevard reflect the city's 2040 vision and align with several of the strategic priorities outlined in the Corvallis Strategic Plan:
Infrastructure and amenities
- Provide an efficient, safe, and accessible connected transportation system for all modes of transportation.
- Ensure city streets, buildings, utilities, libraries, parks, trails, and greenspace are functional, well-maintained, and accessible.
Safe and resilient city
- Adapt to changing climate impacts and support the reduction of GHG emissions community-wide.
- Support the social and emotional well-being of residents.
