We Urge Pfizer to Prioritize Pediatric Cancer Research and Drug Development

The Issue

The Reality of Pediatric Cancer

🎗️Everyday, families across the United States grapple with the devastating news of their children being diagnosed with cancer. Forty-seven kids a day in the U.S. receive this heartbreaking diagnosis. Despite being the leading cause of death by disease in children, more than all other childhood diseases combined, pediatric cancer research is given pennies on the dollar, receiving only 4% of the federal cancer research funds. For ALL pediatric cancers combined. This diseases claims nearly 1,800 children in the U.S. annually, and close to 100,000 a year globally.

Why Pfizer?

🎗️In their 2025 Super Bowl Commercial, Pfizer used the face of pediatric cancer to pull on heartstrings, showcase their commitment to cancer research, and asking for your support in achieving this goal. They had big dreams and bold claims of 8 ground breaking treatments by 2030. This left many parents in the pediatric cancer community celebrating. They felt seen. They had HOPE for better and safer future in treatments.

However, after urging Americans to look into their clinical trial pipeline, the excitement and hope fell, and it was replaced with sadness and anger. Children were still left grossly under researched and again given so little compared to the adult oncology world.

Of their current 115 in clinical trials in the pipeline they asked America to see, only 3 are for pediatrics disease and NONE are currently for pediatric cancer. While it does appear that there are two, for leukemia and lymphoma respectfully, that they are recruiting for, there still doesn’t appear to be any for the diseases that have so little treatment options and poor outcomes. DIPG, Brain Tumors, Neuroblastoma, Sarcomas, or Wilms tumors to name a few.

These cancers need more and better treatment choices right now!

While Pfizer never made a direct claim that the commercial was for ‘pediatric cancer’ specifically, it does feel a little disingenuous to use a child, in a commercial campaign promising to ‘Knock Out Cancer’ played on the emotions of Americans worldwide. Those watching to believe pediatric cancer would be a big part of the knock out.  This discrepancy between words and actions is a glaring one.

So what now?

🎗️While we acknowledge the increasing effort of cancer research by Pfizer, we are devastated that once again, kids are left in the background. Especially as they used the marketing strategy of a ‘child cancer survivor’.

We also recognize that Pfizer has the strength, power, and ability to truly take the future of pediatric cancer to new levels. Which our children desperately need. If they are going to ‘Knock Out Cancer’ we urge them to make pediatric oncology a priority.

Prioritize Pediatrics…

🎗️By prioritizing pediatric clinical trials and the development of medications specifically aimed at combatting cancers that affect children, they can make a substantial difference in the lives of these young patients and their families.

Despite the 47 kids a day in the US diagnosed with cancer, most treatments and protocols are old, outdated, and extremely toxic. Clinical trials for pediatric cancers also lag behind that of adults by 4-6 years.

There are very few treatments and chemotherapies targeted specifically for kid. And kids, are not little adults, they deserve kid designed treatments.

Call to Action!

🎗️We are urging Pfizer to honor their claims, fulfill the promise they symbolize in their commercials, and make a direct, life-changing impact in the fight against pediatric cancer.

We implore Pfizer to focus on pediatric cancer research, assist us in changing the harrowing statistics we face daily, and give an estimated 17,000 American children a year the promise of HOPE
