2023 marks 30 years since the cold-blooded assassination of the former SACP General Secretary, Chris Hani who was also the chief of Staff of uMkhonto weSizwe and ANC NEC Member. His assassination nearly led the country into civil war and it will be important for his family to get justice and absolute truth about his killing. Both Walus' and Derby-Lewis were denied amnesty at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).

Following the ConCourt judgment handed down on 21 November 2022, the SACP launched 135 days programme of activism towards the 30th anniversary of his assassination. The main demand is for the State to establish an inquest into his death.

The ConCourt has failed to protect communists by releasing an ideologically-driven assassin, who remains resolutely anti-communist and not ready to speak the absolute truth.
