We stand with SAG-AFTRA and the WGA for Fair Wages and Limited Use of AI.
The Issue
Dear Oklahoma actors and industry professionals,
We, the concerned members of the entertainment industry in Oklahoma and supporters of fair labor practices, urge you to join us in standing with SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) during their strike for fair wages and working conditions. By supporting this cause, we can collectively fight for a more equitable future in the entertainment industry.
SAG-AFTRA represents over 160,000 actors, announcers, broadcasters, journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers/editors/producers, program hosts/readers/narrators/performers/singers/voice-over artists/recording artists/sound recording professionals, stunt performers and others. They are currently engaged in a crucial battle against major media conglomerates to secure better contracts to replace those written in 1960. Times have changed, streaming service has impacted us and with the advent of AI, we are literally facing extinction as our very identity and talent can easily be exploited with no consent or compensation.
According to a statement from the union, “We need a contract that will increase contributions to our benefit plans and protect members from erosion of income due to inflation and reduced residuals, unregulated use of generative AI, and demanding self-taped auditions.”
Although SAG-AFTRA has been working hard to come to an agreement with the AMPTP, their efforts have been halted by a lack of compromise by the AMPTP.
Never before has it been more transparent that the efforts of the AMPTP are cold and ruthless by intentionally stonewalling any compromise in hopes of 'waiting out' the hard-working laborers in our field until they begin to 'lose their homes'.
By signing this petition, you are showing your solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and demanding that major media conglomerates address these pressing issues. Together, we can create an industry that values its workers and ensures fair treatment for all.
Let us stand united in support of SAG-AFTRA's strike for fair wages, equal opportunities, reasonable working conditions, and transparency within the entertainment industry. Sign this petition today to make your voice heard!
Our message to SAG/AFTRA:
Many of us are not yet members but we pledge to uphold the rules of your strike in solidarity with this important work you are doing which affects all of us, union and non-union. Thank you for your courage and commitment to the members of our community. You can count us among your numbers. We stand with you!
