"WE STAND WITH PROTEA PLACE" Help Save Protea Place, Toowoomba
The issue
Protea Place has been a lifeline for over 4,000 women in our community, offering essential services such as a day time drop in dignity support along with an integrated model of housing and health support to vulnerable women.
Despite our proven impact, we are still rallying hard to secure ongoing government funding yet, putting our vital work at risk. Our goal is to ensure Protea Place can continue transforming lives and providing hope to those who need it most. Without Protea Place, many women would face impossible choices between safety and survival.
Protea Place offers more than just temporary relief; we provide a pathway to long-term stability and hope.
Through the incredible generosity of local philanthropists, sponsorship and individuals, Protea Place has raised all of its operational costs since opening in 2019 with every dollar going directly towards supporting vulnerable women in our community. Despite these remarkable efforts, the service requires reoccurring funding to maintain its critical operations. To ensure long-term sustainability and continue providing essential support, Protea Place desperately needs ongoing Government funding. Without this support, the future of this vital service is at risk.
How are these operational funds utilised? Since 2023, Protea Place has provided more than 13,000 supports and services delivered across various needs categories. Including:
- Brokerage and Emergency Relief: 1,687 services
- Dignity Services (clothing, laundry, showers, toiletries): 2,625 services
- Domestic and Family Violence Support: 889 services
- Health and Wellbeing: 4,663 services
- Housing Support: 763 services
- Meals: 2,581 meals
With 2,088 presentations between May 2023 and May 2024 – a 187% increase from the year prior with 1,112 presentations to the service, the demand is growing exponentially.
For every 10 women seen by Protea Place, the service supplies these individuals on average with:
- Brokerage and Emergency Relief: 6 services
- Dignity Services: 9 services
- Domestic and Family Violence Support: 3 services
- Health and Wellbeing: 15 services
- Housing Support: 2 services
- Meals: 8 services
Please stand with us, to support Protea Place and encourage ongoing funding from the Government. Sign the petition today!
