The Issue

My daughter is 17 and has been a multi-sport athlete, finding a unique passion and personal growth through volleyball. It has become more than just a sport to her; it's a pathway to self-discovery, teamwork, and empowerment. Like many parents, I have seen the transformative power of sports in a young woman's life. Volleyball offers not only physical benefits but also builds strong character and leadership skills.

Unfortunately, the Tri-City area—encompassing Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge, Ontario—needs a new volleyball club for young girls, due to limited opportunities  to experience these same benefits. Establishing a volleyball club could foster the personal and athletic development of many young female athletes, giving them a platform to grow into strong, confident women.

A local volleyball club would provide structured training, competitive opportunities, and a community where young girls can learn from each other and seasoned coaches. This will help nurture their physical talents, encourage teamwork, and build resilience, serving them well in all areas of life.

Studies have shown that female participation in sports is vital for self-esteem and future success. According to a report by the Women’s Sports Foundation, girls who participate in sports are more likely to achieve higher grades and have better career prospects. Yet, they often face barriers such as a lack of dedicated facilities and programs tailored to their interests.

By starting a girls' volleyball club in the Tri-City area, we can break these barriers and provide a much-needed resource for our community's youth. We envision a club that not only develops athletic skills but also instills positive values and a strong sense of community.

I urge local community members, businesses, and city officials to support the establishment of this volleyball club. It's an investment in our daughters' futures and in the strength of our community. Let's take this step together to empower our young women and provide them with the opportunities they deserve.

Please sign this petition to encourage the creation of a volleyball club for young girls in the Tri-City area, and help us provide a space for them to thrive and succeed.
