The Issue

We strongly support the proposed housing development at 4868 Canoga Avenue, which would replace a portion of the Woodland Hills Country Club. It’s no secret that we are facing a housing and affordability crisis, and thoughtful developments like this one are critical to addressing these challenges. Los Angeles has enough private golf courses; this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to take space previously reserved for a select few and deliver something that builds community and helps address our housing crisis.

Our City Needs More Housing
We face a historic housing shortage, with demand far outpacing supply across all income levels. Homeownership, especially for young families, feels more out of reach than ever before. We must expand housing opportunities for current and future residents so that people can live close to work and school while not being far from recreational and commercial areas. This project proposes 398 new homes, which will be a significant contribution toward meeting the City’s housing goals and alleviating pressure on housing costs.

Mixed-Income and Inclusive Housing Opportunities
This development includes a range of housing types to meet diverse community needs:

175 single-family homes for sale that will expand homeownership opportunities in our community.

126 market-rate apartments that will add rental options for households at various income levels.

97 rent-restricted apartments that will include apartments designated for seniors and families. By including rent-restricted apartments, the project creates opportunities for those who work in essential fields — from educators and caregivers to service workers — to live near where they work and contribute to our local businesses.

Thoughtful, Community-Focused Design
The project has been thoughtfully and beautifully designed to fit within the scale and character of the neighborhood while preserving open space. Green space and setbacks will be integrated into the project, offering recreational opportunities and aesthetic benefits for residents and neighbors alike.

Supporting a Resilient, Thriving, Safe Neighborhood
This project will help make Woodland Hills a more resilient and vibrant community by:

  • Adding new and robust fire-safety infrastructure, including new fire pumps and access roads.
  • Maintaining existing perimeter tree canopies and green space.
  • Enhancing quality of life for families, seniors, and workers at all income levels.

We call on local leaders to support this vital project. It will move us closer to creating a Los Angeles where everyone has access to safe, affordable, and thoughtfully designed housing opportunities.
