It is time to hold leaders in government personally responsible for homelessness.

The Issue

We must put an end to the epidemic of homelessness in The United States of America, It is time we hold our leaders in Government personally accountable. This problem is about to become much worse as protections from evictions start to end. The American people have come together to do amazing things when faced with  great adversity. It is time we tackle Homelessness. In WWII the greatest generation fought to defeat evil , so people around the world could have their basic human right of the freedom to practice the Religon of their choice. As the greatest generation passes away we must begin to think how we will leave out mark upon society. I call on each and everyone of you reading this to sign this petition. Our voice must be heard, our demands must be met No one should have to need for the basic human right of shelter. Ask yourself how you want to be remembered. We can be remembered as the generation that solved homelessness.  In light of COVID-19 it is clear Governments around the world can work together to do the "Impossible". On the 9/11 Americans lined up around blocks waiting hours to donate blood, Some vollunteered at Ground Zero putting their lives on line to assist in the clean up efforts, and even more amazingly to search for survivors in the rubble. After hurricane sandy average people went to help rebuild the 9th Ward.  although this is still a work in progress one day the 9th ward will be brought back to its former glory. With your help we can start the process of putting an end to the Homeless That has gone on for far too long in the United States of America. We are supposed to be the best nation on earth however we are lacking in ways to prove we are the greatest Country in the World.  What I propose is that The Department of Heath and Human Services. As well as The Department of Housing and Urban Development. Under the command of President Joseph Biden, and  Vice President Kamala Harris.

I propose this simple 4 step program
1. As soon as an applicant applies for the program they are placed in a motel until the application is approved, and food assistance are automatically provided.  Applicants must agree to work the program otherwise the cycle of homelessness will continue, and the program will fail. If the applicant needs Drug, and or alcohol treatment this also must start immediately. If they do not require addiction treatment they are placed into job training, if required the applicant is placed into Vocational rehab this too must be done immediately.  This would show that the applicant is ready and willing to work the program. Once approved if the applicant does not participate they have a chance to rectify the reasons that they are not participating in this program. There are a couple of things to this obviously we can not have families staying in the same "Tiny Home Village" as sex offenders. Separate villages would have to be created to provide equal treatment to everyone facing homelessness. We would need to create villages for families, single adults, and couples. Residents of the village must agree to keep the area clean, and free of drugs, and alchahol, and free of crime. To do this we may need to hire security that is separate from the police to ensure a level of trust all the way around. This is a must to ensure the long term stability and success of the program. If neighbors of the tiny home village are not on board this will never work.

2.After job training counselors would need to work with people for job placement, help with getting a GED/H.S. Diploma

3. After job placement happens the clock starts to tick. They would have a set amount of time to save enough money to get into a home/apartment. Depending on the circumstance people can apply for an extension of benefits.

4. After the participant gets a place of their own after care is a must to ensure the long term stability of the program. If it is determined the applicant no longer needs services they would "graduate" from the program and have the option to be a mentor to someone else coming into the program

you may be asking yourself how much can a tiny home be built for?

I have done some research and asked people who live in and build tiny homes they have given figures of right around $8,000 this may sound like a lot of money however when you take into account the cost of emergency medical treatment for things like frost bite this figure is minuscule in comparison.

1. Prisoners could build the tiny homes. This could potentially help with a few problems. One being reduction of prison recidivism by giving job training for reintegration into society by giving them skills they could use to get a Job, giving them purpose and a way to make enough money to get a place of their own so they do not end up reoffending and causing our prisons to be overpopulated putting both staff and prisoners at risk of illness or injury. This could also ease the burden on tax payers by reducing the amount of people who end up back in our jails and prisons because the individual doesn’t have anything to keep them busy.

2. The next way we can reduce the cost to build is giving people serving community service the option to build these homes again this would offer valuable trade skills opening the door to career training that can be used to get a job after community service is complete, hopefully a reduction of re-offending, again deducing these burdens on the tax payers.

3. Another way is by giving kids in H.S. collage credits either as an elective or having it as a requirement. This would expose Kids at a young age to the trades. As we know college isn’t for everyone, and many of us were told that the trades should be a last resort we now realize this way of thinking is fundamentally flawed.

4. The last way is by offering financial incentives to companies that manufacture the materials needed to build the tiny home. This would also reduce the burdens placed upon the tax payers who already struggle to make ends meet.

No idea is perfect, and every idea may need some refinement however these stepping stones could bridge the gaps that exist in our system. Clearly what we are doing now isn’t working it’s going to take hard work, and dedication from everyone. Please consider signing this petition so we may finally be able to start to try and fix what has been broken for far too long.
