Recently, as we have walked with the children in our local area, we have noticed an increase in the amount of dog poo on the streets and on our local reserve.

The children have made posters for the preschool and for local businesses to display with the hope of encouraging the community to clean up after their dogs.

We have installed our own bag dispenser on our preschool fence, but the children feel that more needs to be done and would like their voices to be heard further afield…..

We would like Sutherland Shire Council to install poo bag dispensers, signage and more bins to help reduce the amount of dog poo on the streets of Oyster Bay.

Here’s what the children had to say:

“People are not picking up their dog poo and putting it in the bin.”

“Some people pick up the poo but don’t put the bag in the bin. We need more bins.”

“We need more poo bags around the streets and near the schools.”

“If people don’t pick up their dog poo, Oyster Bay will get really stinky!”

“We don’t want the dog poo smell.”

“Children are stepping in dog poo when they are playing.”

“The poo spreads germs.”

“We need more signs to tell people to pick up their dog’s poo.”

 “It could say: We love dogs, but not their poo. Scoop it. Bag it. Bin it!”

“Cars sometimes run over poo bags and squish them into the road.”

“Other animals might eat the bags or the poo and get sick and they might die.”

“people need to put it in the bin. It makes me sad when I see a lot of dog poo.”
