We DO say gay and trans

We DO say gay and trans
The Issue
The bill being passed in Florida Legislature's House of Representatives and Senate are planning to pass a bill that people are calling "Don't Say Gay". It is a forced outing that goes against the LGBTQ+ community. It could potentially hurt children that are members of the LGBTQ+ community if they are growing up in a homophobic or transphobic environment. 49% of Florida opposes the bill, and 40% support it. The bill undermines protections for LGBTQ+ children in elementary schools in Florida. It prevents talk of LGBTQ+, sexualitites, and transgender people. If students are heard talking about this, then the students' parents will be called and told about it, which can endanger some students.
This bill has been encouraged by many anti-LGBTQ+ companies and parties. Representative Joe Harding stated that,"Creating boundaries at a young age of what is appropriate at our schools, when we are funding our schools, is not hate." This is totally untrue and the "boundaries" are ignoring the LGBTQ+ community and pretending that it is fake or all lies. People are also saying that it is "inappropriate", which again, that is untrue.
“LGBTQ+ people proudly exist across Florida, whether politicians approve or not — and we are part of America’s past, present and future. Refusing to acknowledge our existence doesn’t change any of that,” said Cathryn M. Oakley, State Legislative Director and Senior Counsel at the Human Rights Campaign. “The ‘Don't Say Gay or Trans’ bill is a politically motivated, shameful effort to attack and endanger LGBTQ+ students. The Florida Senate must vote this discriminatory piece of legislation down.”
“Harding has repeatedly stressed that the bill would not prohibit students from talking about their LGBTQ families or bar classroom discussions about LGBTQ history, including events like the 2016 attack on the Pulse nightclub, a gay club in Orlando. But critics have said the broad language of the legislation could open districts to lawsuits from parents who believe any conversation about LGBTQ people or issues to be inappropriate.” This speaks for itself.
