We Deserve to Know: Was That Ad Made by AI?

The Issue

Every day, we’re seeing ads that look more stunning, more lifelike, and more emotionally gripping than ever. But what we’re not seeing is the truth: more and more of these ads are being created by artificial intelligence—with no notice to the viewer.

As The New York Times reports, some of the world’s biggest ad agencies and brands are now relying on AI tools to generate entire ad campaigns. The images are polished, the faces are fictional, and sometimes even the voices are synthetic. But nowhere on the ad are we told: this was made by AI.

That’s not innovation—it’s deception.

This petition isn’t anti-AI. We understand that technology can reduce production costs and speed up creative work. But consumers have a right to know when we’re seeing something created by a machine rather than a person. Whether it’s a food commercial, a fashion ad, or a political message, companies must be transparent. AI-generated ads should come with a clear disclosure: “This ad contains AI-generated content.”

Without transparency, we risk losing trust not just in advertising, but in what we see with our own eyes. If brands are confident in using AI, they should be confident enough to label it. Hiding the use of AI creates confusion, erodes credibility, and crosses an ethical line.

We’re calling on all advertising agencies, social platforms, and major brands to commit to full disclosure:
✅ Clearly label ads that contain AI-generated visuals, voiceovers, or scripts
✅ Do so across digital, broadcast, and print media

Sign this petition to tell the industry: honesty still matters. Consumers deserve the truth, and it’s time for ads to be upfront about what—and who—is behind them.

Transparency builds trust. Let’s demand it.
