On Behalf Of The Bey Family The family of Wali Bey is devastated by his tragic death and continues to grieve the loss of a loving father, son, and member of the Newark community. Wali’s life was taken unjustly during an encounter involving Nashid Reynolds on January 19, 2026, in Newark. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is currently leading an investigation into this incident, yet no charges have been announced, nor has any body-worn camera footage been publicly released.  This petition seeks justice and accountability for Wali Bey, who was fatally shot during the encounter with police. Immediate transparency is crucial, as it not only honors Wali's memory but also serves the interests of justice within the Newark community. The reluctance to release evidence, particularly the body-worn camera footage, calls into question the integrity of the ongoing investigation. We call upon the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office to release all pertinent information and camera footage related to the incident. By providing transparency, the community can begin to heal from this senseless tragedy and rebuild its trust in law enforcement.  Statistics show that public transparency in police investigations can lead to more just outcomes and prevent further community unrest.
