We DEMAND Justice for Tara Stevens!

The Issue

Moments after midnight on September 12, 2020, Tara Stevens was hit by at least one vehicle - possibly two - as she was walking towards Creekside Bar & Grill in Trail Creek/Michigan City, Indiana. Her injuries were life-threatening, and she was airlifted to a regional hospital, where she succumbed to those injuries 10 days later.

Tara's case has been questionable from the start: 80 people were in attendance, but no witnesses stepped forward. An off-duty police officer attending the benefit, who was drunk, tried to stop Tara from receiving medical aid by trained medical professionals on scene. Depending upon which statement you believe, it was either Trail Creek Police Department or Michigan City Police Department that responded first. While jurisdiction appears to belong to Trail Creek, neighboring MCPD took over the investigation.

Tara's case should have never been handled by MCPD. It should have been kicked up to LaPorte County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) if Trail Creek wasn't capable of handling the investigation. But the off-duty cops drinking that night muddied the waters, and this case appears to have been given to the wrong department. Cops who were drinking on-scene from MCPD & LCSO were never questioned as persons of interest, but they were allowed to work the case, even though they have access to vehicles matching the offender's SUV.

The MCPD released a stock photo of only one vehicle, based upon parts from a dark-colored, GMC Terrain. Those pieces were taken out of Tara's hip during surgery. However, video footage that should have showed the accident is unaccounted for, and no one knows for certain if one or two vehicles were involved. Rumors soon spread a drunk cop may have been the second driver, if there was one. Every name associated with this case as a person of interest has direct ties to the bar and/or the police department. This case has been maliciously and intentionally tainted to prevent Tara's family from seeking justice.

Adding insult to injury is that the bar owner, also a local attorney, made poor ethical choices and did not properly disclose his personal conflict of interest when he mis-filed Tara's will in the wrong county. A local judge signed off on the probate, leaving Tara's family unaware that her estate had the power to independently investigate her foul-play death.

Michigan City has a history of police corruption, as confirmed by previous arrests and convictions of other officers. Tara's family - and her community - do not believe this case was handled properly from the start. Police gave up investigating four months' after the crash, and tips provided by our team of veteran reporters with PI experience were ignored for months.

In response to these allegations, the MCPD has now launched a social media assault against the family of Tara Stevens and the team aiding them in getting to the truth.

We are now DEMANDING this case be immediately turned over to Indiana State Police. Our community requests that every officer and official involved be investigated for their role in tainting Tara's case. Tara's family and our team, with the assistance of the MC community, have compiled many pieces of this puzzle, and we request an investigator with integrity to review each and every lead.
