We Demand Justice for Char'Dae Nunes
The Issue
We are petitioning to the Cheektowaga Police Department to reopen Char’Dae Nunes’s case. For the police to close Char’Dae’s case and rule her death as “accidental,” without knowing the full truth of what happened to this young woman is a total injustice. The reason we are petitioning is because the Cheektowaga Police Department stated in a report, “It is unclear exactly what caused her to fall from the window.” Therefore, because it is unclear as to why Char’Dae Nunes was climbing out of the Uber window, it is imperative that the Cheektowaga police do a full and thorough investigation.
Char’Dae wasn’t under the influence. There was neither drugs, or alcohol found in her system. Char’Dae’s family, along with many other people strongly believe that Char’Dae was not trying to take her own life by crawling out of the Uber window and believe that she may have been trying to escape out of fear. Char’Dae’s family members and other people in the community also believe that this might have been a potential human trafficking incident that Char’Dae was trying to escape.
We demand Justice and the truth about what happened to Char’Dae and we demand her case to be fully investigated. There are too many unanswered questions to close this case. We want to know how is it that Char’Dae was talking to her cousin on FaceTime in the Uber completely fine one minute, then suddenly her cousin could no longer hear or see Char’Dae and the screen turned black. It was silent for at least five minutes. Did the Uber driver take Char’Dae’s phone? Then, Char’Dae’s cousin began to hear noise again and heard sirens. We also want to know how Char’Dae’s phone didn’t have a scratch on it, yet Char’Dae was found dead on the expressway.
Also, the Uber driver told the police that he “hit a speed bump and that is how Char’Dae had fallen out of the window”. However, there are no speed bumps on the expressway. Then, Uber switched his story to “He doesn't know how she got out of the car.” We believe the Uber driver needs to be questioned more since his story kept changing and doesn’t line up.
The police officer’s job is to serve and protect the community. However, the police officers failed Char’Dae. Please sign and share this petition. Char’Dae deserves justice and her family deserves to know the truth.
