WE DEMAND ACTION: Pigeons at Network Rail Green bridge MCJ1/20; Kilburn Station
The Issue
Pigeons at Network Rail Green bridge MCJ1/20; Kilburn Station
For many years local residents and other users of Kilburn Underground station have had to endure extreme levels of pigeon excrement under the Network Rail bridge MCJ1/20 at Kilburn station.
Apart from the unsightly mess, this continuing unpleasant situation presents a serious health hazard to all who regularly pass under this bridge; pigeon waste is known to cause lung fibrosis and other serious health conditions.
Despite site meetings with Brent Council, a council enforcement notice issued against them (Case Ref E/20/0077) and countless emails with non-committal replies, there has been absolutely no progress; Network Rail clearly have no intention to do anything at all about it, whatever they keep telling us.
They have said that because of the low height of this bridge, compared to the one going across Kilburn High Road, netting is not possible. At present only rusty and broken spikes are in place, which clearly have no effect in deterring the pigeons from congregating under this bridge.
Something has to be done urgently.
We therefore call on Network Rail to take immediate action to remedy this intolerable environmental issue.
