We demand a wailing warning siren in every town at risk of flooding or wildfire

We demand a wailing warning siren in every town at risk of flooding or wildfire
The Issue
In the early morning hours of July 4, deadly flash floods tore through Texas Hill Country, killing more than 100 people — including dozens of children at Camp Mystic.
But one town, Comfort, didn’t lose a single resident.
The difference? Comfort had a wailing warning siren.
When cell service failed and phones were silenced, the town’s new siren system — manually triggered by first responders — cut through the noise, blaring a clear signal: get out now.
Just 20 miles away in Kerr County, where no such sirens existed, floodwaters rose 26 feet in 45 minutes. Entire cabins were swept away.
A wailing warning siren can reach those asleep, outside, or disconnected. It’s loud. It’s unmistakable. It saves lives.
Yet countless U.S. towns still lack this basic emergency system — even in known flood and wildfire zones.
We’re calling on FEMA, Congress, and state emergency management leaders to fund and install wailing warning sirens in every high-risk town across the U.S.
If Comfort, Texas can do it for $60,000, so can others. The cost of inaction is unbearable.
Sign now to demand a national standard for siren alerts. Every minute counts — and every life matters.
