A former Chief Information Officer and forensic records investigator, is suing E.ON and the government regulator Ofgem for £2 million. David Gale, known locally as Derby Dave, alleges that both E.ON and Ofgem knew that customer billing systems data had been corrupted but concealed the resulting volume of overbilling that has, in some cases, been unlawfully pursued through the courts.
Citing his four-year forensic investigation of E.ON billing records, Gale claims that he has confirmed that not only were significant numbers of bills grossly inaccurate but that the energy company and Ofgem knew that inaccurate bills were being unlawfully pursued for payment.
Gale said, “They’ve tried to bully customers into submission. In many instances, they’ve succeeded, sometimes harassing disabled customers despite being fully aware of their vulnerabilities. There are issues related to criminal fraud, criminal harassment, perjury, malicious prosecution, contempt of court, and negligence. E.ON has knowingly caused serious harm to its customers.”
Gale added, “Ofgem, that has within its remit a duty to protect customers, has failed to address reams of evidential data provided to them. I’ve also evidenced that the Energy Ombudsman Service Limited was also involved in concealing known catastrophic data losses within energy companies.”
“It’s notable that despite having been offered access to evidential data, the mainstream media has so far failed to hold energy companies and the government’s energy regulator to account. Given the millions of pounds of annual advertising spend by energy companies, one has to be concerned that there may be a significant conflict of interest.”
Gale concluded, “This is a volume fraud on energy customers and potentially one of the largest UK frauds this century.”
