We call the OPCW to act!

In the continuity of the aggression on the Armenians, Azerbaijan is using, as the current data confirms, Phosphorus munitions over Nagorno Karabakh setting fires to the forests which are next to civilian communities of Shushi, Martakert and Askeran.

Many news reports, including those of Azeri sources, show the forests burning with the distinct glow of phosphorus. Civilians have also been physically affected by these chemicals. Armenia’s Human Rights Defender’s urgent investigation results as well as fact-finding activities of Artsakh Human Rights Ombudsman confirmed not only the usage of banned weapons, but also the fact that during days and nights many civilians are hiding in these forests from Azerbaijani military attacks.

These  munitions have clear effects of mass destruction for environment and human lives. Azerbaijan deliberately targets ecosystems and civilians.

as a member state of the OPCW , Azerbaijan is in clear violation of the Articles I and IV which prohibits the development, the use of chemical weapons or to engage in any military preparation to use any chemical weapons

Azerbaijan has agreed to chemically disarm and create verification regime for certain toxic and their precursors to ensure that such chemicals are only used for purposes not prohibited under the convention.

We call The OPCW to hold  Azerbaijani government accountable, to immediately act and put in place an verification system  by implementing Article XII of the ‘Measures to Redress a Situation and to Ensure compliance including Sanctions’ to ultimately make them stop destroying human lives and the environment.
