Petition updateStop Terrence Wall's Downtown Waunakee, Wisconsin Luxury Apartment ComplexInspire Wildlife Daycare Center in Westport - Final Meeting January 8th - Goodbye Rural Feel
Keep Northern Dane County RuralWI, United States
Dec 28, 2017
Greetings petition signers, Many of you may have read in the paper or heard about the Inspire wildlife daycare center that Westport unanimously approved recently along County M. Mr. Bob Davis, owner of the daycare, previously stated that the daycare center would have at least 250 students (number of students at his existing daycare center in Madison) in at least a 20,000 square foot building and have farm animals and a few exotic ones such as kangaroos and zebras, if the USDA approved his exotic animal permit application. However, we found in a new Tribune article that Mr. Davis's plan is actually for a 23,000 square foot building with 350 kids, 50 staff, 15 classrooms, and many exotic animals, such as camels, zebras, ringtailed lemurs, and kangaroos, and a bird aviary. It would also have a full-time zookeeper, large gymnasium, sports field, 20 foot crane/sand exploration area, role playing area, and an art/music/science classroom. While the basic concept is great such as gardens and wildlife exposure, the size seems exaggerated and significantly larger than what was originally proposed, plus 400 more people in that area means 400 more cars on our already-congested road network. Most likely, a stoplight will be needed, congestion will increase, the roads will be widened, and the rural feel will rapidly go away. Mr. Davis already has an existing daycare in Madison, but it is only on 7 acres and holds 250 kids. We feel that the daycare should be 13,000 square feet and have a maximum capacity of 150 students to hopefully reduce traffic impacts. If you are interested, consider attending Westport's Plan Commission meeting at 7:00 pm on Monday, January 8th, 2018. The final building design proposal will be reviewed at this meeting and there will be opportunity for public comment. Some Dane County Board supervisors will be in attendance at this meeting, so this is a RARE opportunity to voice concerns about Bishop's Bay, the daycare proposal, the Wall apartment proposal, and other issues to a higher government body. The Waunakee Village Board is also having a meeting that same evening related to the creation of a TIF district relating to Terrence Wall's proposed apartment complex. We hope to see a high turnout at each of these meetings.
