Waterford City Council want to remove the famous Bilberry Goats from their native habitat, part of which is on the Bilberry cliffs and Bilberry Rock, to a remote area, that has no grazing rights and no grazing as such, whatsoever.

This removal will leave the animals exposed to the elements, as it has no shelter.  The herbage and nutrition for their very survival is limited. This is wanton destruction of Waterford's very valuable and 'unique' goat breed -  (Wetherbys Ireland/UCD) DNA analysis, 2015.

The photo shows Jack, leader of the herd - 2001- 2010. Jack was 22 years of age. His horn span was 48 inches or 1. 3metres in length. When the sun shone on his coat, it showed  golden flecks.

When a nanny  was about to kid on the cliffs, it was Jack's duty, as the leader to select two male yearlings to accompany her, to ward off predators. This was done on a continual basis throughout the  season, with the watchful eye of Jack on all kidding nannies.

Jack never needed to have his hooves trimmed (which is a characteristic of the Bilberry goats). His authority over the herd, never waned until his death in 2010, at the great age of 22 years.
