Water Pressure & Flow Rate Problems In The Groves, Manchester, M13
The Issue
Residents of North, East, South and West Grove in Manchester (M13) have experienced unacceptably low water pressure and poor flow for months. This ongoing problem has made basic daily tasks — particularly showering with hot water — difficult or impossible for many households. The situation is affecting our quality of life and risks residents’ health and wellbeing, especially during the colder months.
We have reported the problem to United Utilities multiple times, but the issue remains unresolved. Repeated reports without a clear solution are not good enough. We need action — and we need it now.
Why this matters
Low water pressure prevents residents from using hot water effectively, creating hygiene and health concerns.
Households are forced to run taps for longer to get usable temperatures, which wastes water and raises energy costs.
The issue disproportionately affects vulnerable residents (elderly, families with young children, those with medical needs).
We call on:
United Utilities to urgently investigate the root cause of the low pressure and fix it — not just temporary workarounds.
Manchester City Council to work with United Utilities and prioritise support for affected residents.
Relevant regional authorities/regulators to monitor progress and ensure the problem is resolved quickly and permanently.
Our demands
Immediate interim measures to restore usable water pressure and hot water while a permanent fix is implemented (for example temporary pressure boosting, water tanks, prioritised repairs, or other feasible actions).
A full technical investigation into the cause of the low pressure and clear documentation of required repairs or infrastructure upgrades.
A published plan and timeline for fixes, with regular (weekly or fortnightly) public updates on progress and expected completion dates.
Clear communication channels so residents can report issues and receive responses and progress reports.
Consideration of compensation or bill relief if households have incurred increased costs as a direct result of the low pressure and resulting energy/water use.
Residents deserve reliable access to basic utilities. We demand urgent action, transparency, and a long-term solution to restore adequate water pressure to The Groves.
If you live in the area, have been affected, or care about basic public services, please add your name and share this petition. Together we can make our voices heard and push for the repairs and accountability our neighbourhood needs.
