Water for Mankosi on the Wild Coast

Water for Mankosi on the Wild Coast
The Issue
The area of Mankosi on the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape Province, consists of 12 villages and covers an area of around 30km2. There are about 12 000 inhabitants which means roughly 1000 homestead made up mainly of woman , children and the aged. Whilst some infrastructural development did take place many years ago this is poorly maintained and tap's in the area are dry way more often then when they run.
Even when there is water residents carry buckets of water on their heads to get the water home. Various NGO's have done work in the area but this has barely scratched the surface. Please help us get these access to clean drinkable water.
Water the most basic of Human Rights is denied to these citizens, many hours are spent collection water, boiling it for drinking etc. Children and the aged share the water sources with animals such has sheep and cattle. Many people become sick on a daily basis. The task of collecting water falls mainly on woman and children. This needs to stop.
Swim for Rivers is one such NGO seeking to make a difference in the lives of the people in this community. We hope to bring pressure on the local and provincial government to implement the necessary maintenance and infrastructural programs.
