"RTA sales taxes are voter-approved taxes that affect most major metropolitan areas of Pierce, King, and Snohomish counties" (dor.wa.gov). The whole state of Washington is being taxed. According to dol.wa.gov, if you own a 2012 Toyota Prius and paid $24,000 for the car, you will pay $13,680 in seven years for RTA tax. If your car is newer, four wheel drive, SUV, or even considered luxury you will pay a lot more because you paid a lot more for the vehicle. A 2019 Ford Expedition cost close to $800 a year just for the RTA tax. 

The RTA tax is supposed to pay for the expansion of the rail and transit. Most of the state cannot use the transit system due to location to the closest bus stop requiring to walk a couple hours. This is just a single person. Now if a parent has to walk to the bus stop with kids, all hours of the day or night in questionable weather working a minimum wage job. 

This petition is to drop the RTA tax completely off the Washington State vehicle tab registration and to find the funds from another budget, like the Washington Marijuana Revenue.
