Washington State: Food Waste Regulations for Restaurants

Washington State: Food Waste Regulations for Restaurants
The Issue
There are 1.2 million tons of Food Waste in Washington State every year; more than 38% of the 1.2 Million tons stems from restaurants. To help combat these major problems, we are petitioning the local State Senators that will have the power to create change in our State government, saving food for our community. Currently, restaurants get tax breaks already from not wasting food, but currently the government doesn't regulate where the food actually goes, meaning that restaurants can be receiving these tax breaks but not be helping others. If our petition succeeds, the restaurants will be sending the edible food to food banks and people that desperately need the sustenance. When the restaurants require their staff to cause food waste. This petition will contact specifically Patty Kuderer, Vandana Slatter and Amy Walaen. In addition, we hope to help the food insecurity problem that plagues Washington State.
