Why this petition matters

Started by Bill Tapia

Orca populations in the North Puget Sound region are endangered due to the historically poor salmon runs. There have been claims that the Orcas need wild salmon to survive, and that hatcheries should be shut down. Orcas don't know or care where the fish were raised, only that they are salmon. Increasing hatchery production increases the salmon population. Shutting hatchery production down decreases an already dismal run and further endangers the Orcas.

This is a counter-petition to Patagonia's petition to shut down hatcheries based on the lie that Orcas need wild salmon to survive.
